Dr. Aakanchha Jain, Ph.D

Assistant Professor , Department of Pharmaceutics

Dr. Aakanchha Jain has 13 years of experience as a formulation scientist and researcher. She has been obscured in the field of development, optimization and evaluation of various conventional and novel drug delivery systems of drugs/ proteins to enable their passage across skin and to target the internal organs like colon. She has hands on experience in preparation and evaluation of tablets, rapimetls, hydrogels, thermo-responsive gels, mucoadhesive gels, flexible vesicular carrier systems (transfersomes, ethosomes, niosomes), polymeric and metallic nanoparticles, self-assembled systems etc. for delivery of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs. Her research interest focuses on non-invasive delivery of anticancer, antifungal, antibacterial and antidiabetic drugs for diseases where systemic absorption can be avoided to surpass drug related toxicity and side effects. It is well known that mitochondria are the power house of the cells and that they are responsible for many basic metabolic cycles in body. Also, mitochondrial functions are highly affected (upregulated/ downregulated) in different diseases conditions. Dr. Jain is serving as an editorial board member for EC Gastroenterology and Digestive System, and a guest reviewer for Carbohydrate Polymers, Pharmaceutical Development and Technology, and ACS Omega. She has received various awards and recognition for research, and has published widely in such peer reviewed journals as the Journal of Microencapsulation, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Journal of Biomaterial and Tissue Engineering, Journal of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry, Journal of Molecular Liquids, Drug Delivery and Translational Research, Journal of Controlled Release, and the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacology. Presently, students under her supervision are working on preparation of mitochondrial targeted system for the treatment of glioblastoma, sublingual delivery of GLP-1 R agonist and local, topical delivery systems for targeted and sustained drug delivery to treat oral squamous cell carcinoma, novel formulation for drug resistant colon cancer.
